Partnering with the National Park Service and Groundwork Bridgeport, Planet Zero Gravity researched the North Branch Park River corridor. The goal of this study was to make recommendations on whether a trail along the river through this urban area was feasible. Work included property analysis, identifying nearby connections, reviewing historical water flows and mapping. This study was produced for the City of Hartford. (photo credit – Groundwork Bridgeport)
This project involved an inventory of all trails and other assets at Sunrise Park in Suffield, CT. Each feature was logged with GPS, and a map created that will be used in future promotional materials for the park. Project was completed for the Suffield Parks and Recreation Department.
As part of the effort to help Newtown create an Action Plan for the renovation of Al’s Trail, Planet Zero Gravity performed a GIS grade analysis on the 11 mile long trail. It involves using elevation data to determine which segments of trail are steep and potentially unsustainable. For this project we used the grade analysis to pinpoint sections of trail that were more likely need maintenance or potentially even a re-route.
In 2014 Planet Zero Gravity was contracted to create and implement a river steward program that addressed some of the problems created by increased usage on the Wild and Scenic Upper Farmington River. After researching current issues and comparing how other rivers dealt with similar problems, a program was developed that included hiring college students and recruiting volunteers to engage river users with education and outreach. This program is still active today.
