Aerial Mapping

Do you need a licensed and insured UAV pilot specializing in how aerial mapping and imagery can be applied to make your trail design, bike park or maps even better? That’s us!

Five Ways Aerial Mapping Can Be Essential to Your Trail or Bike Park Project

Build a Basemap for Your GIS Mapping Project When None Exists, is Outdated or Lacks Required Resolution

There are a lot on free online resources to aid with map creation. Google and Bing are one of many providers of basemaps. However, when was the last time this information was collected? What resolution is offered? Often a project site has recent changes that need to be incorporated into a map.

This is when UAVs can help. Orthomosaics are aerial top-down maps made by stitching together many photos to form one image through the process of photogrammetry. They can provide data covering large areas, and since an orthomosaic is georeferenced, it is perfect for exporting into GIS software as a basemap or other layer.

Create a 3D model of a Bike Park or MTB Trail Feature for Measurements and Safety Audit

By using drones with high quality cameras and appropriate processing software, we create extremely accurate 3D models of your project area. UAV aerial mapping of an area is much quicker than a person surveying from the ground, saving time and money. From the convenience of your computer, take precise distance, volume and angle measurements from these models. Use the collected data to perform a safety audit of your bike park or trail features. Measurements can be compared to known best practices to see if your build was done correctly. Also, maybe there is a feature that seems to be liked more than others. With these precise measurements at your fingertips, be able to replicate those design specs elsewhere in your park.

Create a Detailed Contour Map

Sometimes a 50 or 20 foot interval contour map found online is not enough. UAVs employing aerial mapping can collect data from an area, process this with special software, and then create contour maps with intervals as small as 1 foot.

Import Terrain Maps into CAD or Sketchup for Concept Designs

Terrain maps can be created using either lidar or photogrammetry data. Outputs can include DSM (digital surface models) which include both natural and man-made features or DTM (digital terrain models) which typically only include the ‘bare earth’. A big benefit is taking these outputs into other third party software, such as CAD or Sketchup, and creating conceptual designs for bikes parks or urban rennovation projects.

Capture Aerial Imagery to Create Amazing Maps or Document Progress

Aerial imagery can be helpful for project visualization, documentation and marketing. Our UAVs take beautiful high resolution pics that show every detail. An aerial photo can also make your trail maps stand out.
